Loule Cup 2010

International Success for Northampton's Penny Mitchell

Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnastics Academy gymnast Penny Mitchell is celebrating after a successful competition result in Portugal whilst representing ENGLAND. The Loule Cup International is an annual event held in Loule, Portugal. It attracts athletes from across the World from both national delegations and Clubs.

Penny Mitchell (19) was selected as part of the England delegation was on a high as she won the Senior Ladies event with a score of 92.0 with nearly a whole mark margin from 2nd place England team mate Jessica Plesant from Bracknell.
This was Mitchell’s first international cap. Her coach, Harvey Smith said “ Penny coped well under tremendous pressure and showed consistency over a three round competition event, particularly in the final round to secure a podium gold”.
Representing Northamptonshire were Penny’s Club team-mates Amanda Harris, Vicky Payne and Matthew Russell. Russell overcame his nerves competing in his first international event and at senior level for the first time finishing a respectable 7th place. Experienced Harris made an unfortunate error in her 2nd routine leaving her out of the medals despite the highest score in the final round. Vicky Payne made an uncharacteristic error in her compulsory routine with nerves getting the best of her and regrettably put her out of the final stage of competition, finishing in  21st place.
